The Ups and Downs of Working in a Hotel: A Hospitality Professional's Confessions

Working in a hotel can be a rollercoaster ride. As a hospitality professional, I've seen it all - from the glamorous side of hosting VIP guests to the not-so-glamorous side of dealing with drunk guests who think they own the place. But you know what they say, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade (or in our case, cocktails).

One of the perks of working in a hotel is that you get to meet people from all over the world. It's like traveling without leaving your job. You can learn so much from interacting with guests, from their cultures to their travel stories. And if you're lucky, you might even make some lifelong friends.

But let's be real, not every guest is a joy to serve. Some can be downright rude and entitled, like the ones who expect you to read their minds or the ones who complain about everything just to get a discount. And don't get me started on the ones who think it's okay to treat you like their personal servant.

Working in a hotel also means dealing with the weirdest requests, like the guest who wanted a bathtub full of rose petals or the one who asked if we could arrange a marriage proposal on a hot air balloon (yes, really). But hey, it's all part of the job, and it keeps things interesting.

One thing that's for sure is that working in a hotel requires a lot of multitasking and flexibility. You can go from checking in a guest to fixing a broken toilet to serving a cocktail in a matter of minutes. And you have to do it all with a smile on your face, even when you feel like crying.

All in all, working in a hotel is not for the faint of heart. But if you're up for the challenge, it can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience. Just remember to always have a sense of humor and a bottle of wine handy. Trust me, you'll need it.

So to all my fellow hospitality professionals out there, cheers to surviving another day in the hotel life. And to all the guests reading this, please be kind to your hotel staff. We're doing our best to make your stay enjoyable, and a little appreciation goes a long way
